The standard level course in laser dentistry is a prerequisite for all dentists, dental hygienists, and highly recommended for dental assistants and rest of and the dental team members who handle any kind of LASER devices. It provides a basic level of education in LASER usage and includes specific device instructions with demonstrated proficiency in didactic and hands-on knowledge. LASER safety is an important issue and all those who are involved in LASER dentistry must be equipped with the knowledge of the wavelengths, user settings, care and maintenance of the device. Further, international bodies governing laser safety issues require all organizations utilizing laser devices to have a certified laser safety officer. This course provides some of the required knowledge and documentation for laser safety officers.
Apart from general considerations in LASER practice, specific uses of LASERs in various fields of dentistry will be discussed along with tips on LASER practice management.
The Standard Level Course is the basic level of education in dental laser use, including specific laser proficiency and laboratory knowledge. Candidates for the Standard Level Course must demonstrate a basic understanding of all wavelengths via a multiple-choice examination and an oral clinical simulation exam, with at least one wavelength.
The course requires didactic scientific education and clinical cases review as well as additional hands-on simulation on animal jaw samples.
ALD Dental Laser Standard Level Course - A Certificate Program
This program is a peer-reviewed, hands-on training, comprehensive laser certificate course for the entire dental team. This program provides candidates with a strong foundational understanding of laser physics, laser tissue interaction, characteristics of various laser wavelengths, clinical case studies, laser safety, regulatory information and a live hands-on portion.
Educational Objectives - These 12 CEU hours include:
An understanding of the basic principles of laser physics and laser-tissue interaction.
How variations in the laser’s wavelength, power, and temporal modes can be used to alter desired clinical outcomes.
An understanding of laser operation and safety features in a hands-on learning assessment exercise.
Practical hands-on exercises in laser-assisted clinical procedures on porcine tissue under controlled supervision.
Fulfillment of the Dental Laser Licensure Requirements.
3-PART CERTIFICATION PROCESS
Part 1 - Foundations in Laser Dentistry - Self-paced Online Digital Learning Program (6 CEU's)

Chapter 4: Clinical Applications in Laser Dentistry
Chapter 5: Laser Safety in Dentistry
Part 2 - Hands-on Clinical Simulation & Training (in person) - Provided by an approved ALD Trainer
Includes a minimum of 6 hours of didactic device-specific or wavelength(s)-specific training, more than 3 hours of which are devoted to supervised hands-on activities which includes a comprehensive clinical simulation examination. Also included is a 1-hour review of the Part 1 key concepts and a course evaluation. (6 CEU's from trainer or venue).
PLEASE NOTE: Parts 1 and 2 must be successfully completed prior to taking the Standard Level Online Exam (Part 3).
Part 3 - ALD Dental Laser Standard Level Online Exam - Timed 1-hour exam with 75 question multiple-choice questions. This is a CLOSED book exam. The online exam is administered by the Academy of Laser Dentistry (1 CE from ALD).
The Standard Level Course also forms the base credential for progressing to the Fellowship and Mastership Certification Programs. Successful candidates of the Standard Level Course, can immediately apply for the Fellowship Program (details coming soon!).
Dr. Saleh Aria
Dr. Saleh Aria is a distinguished and forward-thinking clinician, committed to advancing the field of dental care. He began his dental journey in Stockholm, Sweden, where he qualified, and has since established a prominent practice in the UK, where he has been practicing since 1999. Since 2001, Dr. Aria has served as the Principal Dentist at The Harrow Dental Practice, where he continues to lead and innovate in patient care and treatment.

Dr. Darbar continues to run courses and trains dentists worldwide. He is also an invited speaker and published author and contributor of chapters in a few text books on lasers in dentistry worldwide. Instrumental in pioneering the use of Low-Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) more recently termed Photobiomodulation therapy (PBM and PBMT) using high power surgical lasers with diffusers. He continues to be involved in research & development, designs and beta testing of numerous laser units.
A leading member of the ALD (Academy of Laser Dentistry) and past president of the ALD. He holds a ‘Masters’ and ‘Certified Educator’, and ‘Certification Course Trainer’ status.He currently chairs the ALD education and certification committees.

Dr. Marta Maciak
Dr. Marta Maciak, MD, PhD, is a distinguished dentistry and aesthetic medicine expert, boasting remarkable experience and extensive qualifications gained from prestigious universities and specialized international courses. She graduated from the Medical University of Białystok and earned her specialization in conservative dentistry with endodontics in 2007.

Her passion for scientific advancement led her to obtain a PhD in dermatology in 2009, following her tenure as an assistant lecturer in the Department of Conservative Dentistry. Dr Maciak has consistently expanded her expertise, as evidenced by her completion of postgraduate studies in aesthetic medicine and her attainment of prestigious international credentials such as the International Fellowship of the Academy of Laser Dentistry and the Professional Diploma in Advanced Laser Dentistry from BAIRD, both in 2019. In 2023, she achieved the esteemed Master in Lasers from the Academy of Laser Dentistry (ALD).
Currently, she serves as the Chairperson of the Polish Affiliate Study Club of the Academy of Laser Dentistry, actively engaging in both educational and scientific endeavours. She is the author of numerous scientific publications and a renowned lecturer who has trained dentists worldwide in advanced laser therapy techniques in dentistry and aesthetic medicine since 2005. Her areas of specialization include endodontics, aesthetic dentistry, and cutting-edge laser therapy.
Dr Maciak frequently participates in international conferences and workshops, not only as an attendee but also as a speaker, sharing her expertise in aesthetic dentistry, prosthodontics, implantology, periodontology, maxillofacial surgery, as well as aesthetic medicine and cosmetology. Her extensive clinical experience encompasses advanced laser techniques in diagnostics, endodontic and periodontal treatments, surgery, and aesthetic medicine.
